We start out look at the Moffat Route at Leyden, west of Denver, with a BNSF trackage rights
train dropping down the grade, then a coal train followed by the ski train just after dawn.
Next we see the ski train and Amtrak on the Big Ten curve, then it's on to Blue Mountain crossing,
where the tracks go through a horseshoe curve and climb up to tunnel 1. Distributed power can be seen
over the top of the head end units as trains drop down the hill. Next is Plainview, with the ski
train meeting BNSF, Amtrak with flame at the stacks at Crescent, a couple of meets at Cliff, a coal
train by the frozen Boulder Creek, the ski train in the snow at Tolland and an eastbound exiting the
Moffat Tunnel.
Moving to the west end of the tunnel, we find ourselves in heavy snow with a westbound,
the ski train and an eastbound BNSF. More heavy snow at Fraser, with Amtrak, the ski train and an eastbound,
then we see the ski train for the last time at Tabernash after turning on the Y. Then it's on to Granby
and Hot Sulphur Springs, then we see several trains in splendid Byers Canyon. A coal train at dawn and -27
at Kremling, then we see a train negociating fabulous Gore Canyon from Inspiration Point. We follow the canyon
to Bond, where we travel up the Craig Branch, which is the origional Moffat Route, seeing a couple of trains on
Crater Loops. More trains at Toponas Summit, Finger Rock and Phippsbugh round our look at the Moffat Route.
2 hours of heavy coal trains and roaring power in splendid scenery.
